It was two points dropped, rather than a point gained, despite Divock Origi's stoppage time goal handing Liverpool a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion.

Having dominated for much of the first half and gone ahead through captain Jordan Henderson, a mistake from Simon Mignolet allowed West Brom to equalise, and take momentum into the remaining 45 minutes.

The Baggies went on to take a shock lead thanks to Jonas Olsson's header, but it wasn't all doom and gloom for the Reds, as Origi's deflected strike made it 2-2 in the 96th minute.

Jürgen Klopp brought captain Henderson in for his first league start under the German, whilst he was also able to recall Philippe Coutinho, who hadn't started in the league for three weeks due to injury.

Reds dominate from start

It was Coutinho who played a part in Liverpool's early chances, as West Brom initially sat back in search of a draw, something which has become all too common for them under Tony Pulis. Emre Can, playing in a deeper midfield role than normal, turned and shot in the box, only for Boaz Myhill to push his effort wide.

Coutinho then struck over the bar, taking advantage of poor defending from Gareth McAuley to get his shot away, but it didn't matter as Henderson's goal gave Liverpool the lead soon after, with Coutinho again involved.

Henderson's goal cancelled out via Mignolet error

The Brazilian swept a cross in the direction of Adam Lallana, who nodded the ball towards the edge of the six yard box, to where Henderson had burst forward to stroke the ball past Myhill. It's those sort of runs from the midfield that Liverpool have missed of late, and they'll be very glad to have Henderson back in that respect.

However, it wasn't all rosy for the Reds, as West Brom equalised less than 10 minutes later, capitalising on an error from Simon Mignolet. The Belgian flapped at a corner kick, and Craig Dawson was on hand to rifle the ball in, with Mignolet in no-man's land as far as his positioning was concerned.

Whilst West Brom did again seem happy to sit back and try to take a point, they very nearly went ahead on the stroke of half time, having a goal ruled out for offside. Olsson broke in behind the defence from an inswinging set piece and knocked the ball past Mignolet, only for a very delayed flag to halt his celebrations.

Benteke unable to make desired impact

Christian Benteke wasn't having the best of days, with his limited movement again proving a problem as Liverpool tried to attack in the second 45. He didn't help himself by spurning the opportunities he did get, either, as he failed to hit the target when connecting with a good cross from Alberto Moreno.

Backed by the crowd after Klopp's midweek rallying call, the hosts continued throwing the kitchen sink at the visitors, only to go behind to another set piece.

Olsson goal sets up hectic final period

Chris Brunt's delivery from a corner was met by Olsson, who headed past Mignolet to put the Baggies 2-1 up, with around 17 minutes plus stoppage time to hold on.

Liverpool's afternoon was to get even worse a few minutes later, as centre-back Dejan Lovren was forced off on a stretcher. Clattered by a terrible tackle from Craig Gardner, the Croatian was replaced by Origi, who went on to score a last gasp equaliser.

Deep into eight minutes of added time, the Belgian striker recovered from a foul to get up and strike towards goal, with a huge deflection helping the ball in, and saving Liverpool a point.
