Laura Coombs has joined Liverpool Ladies on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Coombs struggled for opportunities with the Blues during their incredible 2015, the club dominating English women's football by winning both the FA WSL 1 title and the FA Women's Cup.

As they continue to strengthen their squad, today announcing the signing of Karen Carney from Birmingham City, this means fewer opportunities are likely to arise for the 24-year-old, with a loan move the best for her right now as she continues her development.

Coombs 'looking forward' to temporary switch

Coombs is excited about her move too, telling Liverpool's official website she is "really looking forward to the start of the season," as it promises the chance of more action than she was getting at Chelsea - where she started just four of their 14 league games last season, playing only 428 minutes of WSL 1 football.

She believes the Liverpool loan can be a "fantastic" one as a result and she is keen to use her hunger to impress to help the team "improve on last season."

The Reds entered the 2015 campaign as defending WSL 1 champions for the second successive season, but they failed miserably in retaining it, finishing second-from-bottom in the end.

Therefore, it comes as little surprise that new manager Scott Rogers is eager to add to his squad, with Coombs's arrivals following the signing of Siobhan Chamberlain from Arsenal earlier this week.

Manager 'pleased' with signing

Rogers also spoke about the midfielder's arrival, saying that he is "really pleased" with the business because Coombs is "a player [he has] admired for a number of years."

He already believes she can be "a crucial player for [the team] next season" and is especially excited to work with her because she chose Liverpool over "a number of clubs [that] were interested."

"This is a really exciting signing for the club," Rogers continued, adding that he is "sure" that it can "help Laura's international aspirations" too.
