Ryan Kent is in line to make his Liverpool debut in their FA Cup third round fixture away at Exeter City this Friday after being recalled from his loan at Coventry City.

The 19-year-old winger joined the Sky Bet League One outfit in early September and has since made 17 first-team appearances for the Sky Blues, impressing as he replaced the injured James Maddison in attacking midfield.

But Reds boss Jürgen Klopp has decided to cut his deal short and bring him back in time to face Exeter, with injuries crippling the options available to him over a packed January fixture period.

Young forward in the frame for first Reds start

Oldham-born Kent played his final minutes for Coventry on Saturday, coming on as a substitute as an Adam Armstrong-inspired side thrashed bottom-of-the-table Crewe Alexandra 5-0 away from home.

He received a standing ovation from his team-mates for his efforts whilst on loan at the Ricoh Arena, contributing a goal and assist with Coventry sat in fourth-place and four points off top spot.

The teenager, who has been on the books of the Merseyside club since the age of seven, was previously a regular at both Under-18 and Under-21s level, before impressing on the first-team's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia, where he made a cameo appearance against Brisbane Roar.

Having thrived on loan at Tony Mowbray's side, Klopp invited the exciting forward to train at Melwood for a few days in recent months so that he could cast an eye over the England U20 international.

Kent, who signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the Reds in March last year, clearly must have made the right kind of impression on the German boss, who is now keen to integrate him into the senior squad.

With fixtures coming thick and fast, Kent could even find himself with an opportunity to make his first Barclays Premier League bow - after Klopp had only Cameron Brannagan and Adam Lallana as options off the bench in their recent 2-0 loss to West Ham United in their first game of the New Year.

Kent admits he's sad to leave Coventry where he has "improved a lot"

Kent, speaking about his chances of featuring in the cup clash at St James' Park next week, said he has been recalled because there are "a number of injuries and a lot of games" and added: "Hopefully I can make my debut against Exeter in the FA Cup but I'll have to see what happens."

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Kent added that his game "has improved a lot" from his time in the Midlands and insisted: "I feel a much better player after stepping up from under-21s football into a first team."

The youngster hailed Coventry City boss Mowbray and said he had been "excellent" with him and had "learned a lot under him both in training and in games" before stating his "big thanks" to the manager.

Kent admitted he's feeling "mixed emotions" about his return to L4, explaining that it is "disappointing" to leave Coventry because how how much he "enjoyed every minute" but said also that he is "looking forward to the next step" in his career.
