Liverpool are close to sealing a £1 million deal for Ruch Chorzow's teenage goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 16-year-old rookie currently plays for the Polish top-flight outfit's Under-19s and is highly-rated in his home country.

And the Echo report that the Reds are keen on acquiring the Polish young international's talents having held progressive talks with the player and his family.

Representatives from the club were in Chorzow to discuss whether Grabara would be interested on the move to England, having rivalled Manchester United and Manchester City for his signature.

Now, the player is expected to fly to Merseyside later in the week to have final talks and potentially a medical, with a view to the player joining Neil Critchley's Under-18s and progressing through their youth ranks.

Reds targeting teenage 'keeper for future

Grabara, the same nationality of former shot-stopper Jerzy Dudek who was between the sticks in Istanbul for the Reds' Champions League triumph in 2005, would command a compensation fee of around £1 million due to his young age.

The deal would see Ruch Chorzow receive their highest-ever transfer fee for a player and include a 15 percent sell-on clause, with the youngster having only signed a professional deal with the club a year ago, penning his future until 2018.

Club president Dariusz Smagorowicz highlighted that Grabara has been on their books "for 12 years" and signed a contract with them to stay "until 2018" but said "now Liverpool want to have him."

In joining the Reds' U18s, the Pole would compete with Shamal George, Caoimhin Keller and Owen Wheeler - who has played for Wolves U18s this season - for the gloves.

And with Ryan Fulton, Andy Firth, Ryan CrumpLawrence Vigouroux and Danny Ward - the latter two of whom on loan at Swindon Town and Aberdeen respectively - Grabara will have plenty of competition ahead of him the older age groups, though it is clear that Liverpool view him highly and as a potential No.1 for the future.
