Liverpool Ladies have signed Dutch defender Mandy van den Berg from Norwegian club Lillestrom SK.
The 25-year-old started her career at Dutch side Ado Den Haag, where she left in 2012 for a move to Damallsvenskan outfit Vittsjö GIK. After spending three seasons there, she signed for Norway's LSK.
The centre half began her international career in December 2010, coming on as a substitute replacing then captain Daphne Koster in a 3-1 friendly win over Mexico. She has since earned 62 caps for her country, scoring three goals, all in FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying games. She captained her country in the Women's World Cup the following year and led them to the Round of 16 stage before getting knocked out by the eventual third-place nation, England.
Rogers and van den Berg excited to get going
Upon completing the move, the Dutch captain said, "Once I heard of Liverpool Ladies' interest there was only one place I wanted to move to." She added, "It is a massive club with real ambitions for the 2016 season and I cannot wait to get started."
Manager Scott Rogers said he was "delighted" to have signed Mandy, whom he believes will be a "key player" for Liverpool this season.
He also said that he was "looking forward" to work with her, who he believes has "proven herself for the Netherlands team" and also discussed that she would indeed be a "top class defender" for the club.
Busy transfer window
Liverpool have undergone a major squad overhaul this season, selling the likes of Katrin Omarsdottir, Natasha Dowie, Fara Williams and Libby Stout, while bringing in Siobhan Chamberlain, Sophie Ingle and Laura Coombs.
Van Den Berg is Liverpool Ladies' 6th signing under new boss Rogers, and the third player to have signed in the space of three days, after the club confirmed the signing of Caroline Weir and Emma Lundh.
