Reports have emerged that suggest Liverpool are set to lose young striker Jerome Sinclair this month, with a move to Watford edging closer and closer.

The Reds expected great things from Sinclair when he first featured for the club three seasons ago, becoming the club's youngest ever debutant at just 16 years and six days.

Since his debut, however, chances have come at a premium for the forward, but a move to newly promoted Watford could be struck with the two clubs scheduled to hold talks soon.

The Hornets are however reluctant to meet Liverpool's £3million asking fee, and will look to thrash out a cheaper deal for the player this window with his contract set to expire in July.

Watford interest

The Red's have set a price-tag of £3million for the 19-year-old, but will be willing to listen to offers now rather than allow the player to leave on a Bosman in the summer.

Liverpool are guaranteed some sort of payment whether through the transfer or compensation, as Sinclair is under 24, making any potential buyer legally obligated to provide the club with a compensation fee.

Watford see his transfer value at about half the asking price but may be forced to pay premium to avoid a tribunal next season, manager Quique Sanchez Flores is already preparing his side for a lengthy tenure in the Premier League, correlating with the rumours over signing the young forward.

After scoring in his first start for the Reds against Exeter City in the FA Cup, the Birmingham born striker feels he has what it takes to become a regular player at a Premier League side as his profile has grown massively in the last month.

Foreign offers

Interest in the forward is not limited to English football, as a host of other clubs from around Europe are interested in bringing the England youth international to their club, but no official bids have been lodged.

Watford's owners, the Pozzo family, current own two overseas clubs in Granada and Udinese, by utilising these major connections the Hornets could potentially strike a deal this window and loan the player to one of their other clubs to further his development.

The forward featured for Liverpool Under 21's on Monday night, scoring against Tottenham Hotspur, and caught the eye of a number of scouts only raising the profile of the player and furthering reports that his career is set for pastures new.

Jurgen Klopp comments

Jurgen Klopp addressed the striker's likely departure at a recent press conference, as he lamented the wage demands of young players.

The German said young players are too concerned with earning the "highest wages" so early on in their professional careers.

Klopp refused to speak about the Watford link directly, but said of Sinclair "he is very young and he can develop" in a show of support for the player.

With other youngsters such as Joao Teixeira and Jordan Rossiter also running out of time to earn new deals, it'll be interesting to see who is still at L4 come September.

Jon Flanagan is also a part of this group, but is to feature more the Reds after overcoming a very lengthy absence through injury, and a new deal is expected to be thrashed out over the next couple of months.
