Liverpool forward Danny Ings has been given some good news from the medical staff, with them confirming that he's free to resume training outside on Tuesday, following months of gym work as he looks to overcome an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Ings has been limited to frustrating indoor work since rupturing his ACL back in October, and will welcome the chance to move outdoors. However, it doesn't mean that he'll return before the end of the season, with his recovery still having a long way to go.

Ings had made a bright start to his Liverpool career

Signing upon the expiry of his Burnley contract last summer, Ings made an impressive start to life on L4, managing three goals in his first eight appearances, one of those against Everton in a Merseyside Derby.

However, disaster struck soon after, when the striker sustained the injury, just two days after making his England debut against Lithuania. That ruled him out for six months minimum, with hopes of returning before the end of the season slim.

No minutes under Klopp as of yet

This has meant that he's yet to play for new Reds boss Jürgen Klopp, who has overseen something of an injury crisis since taking over from Brendan Rodgers. Heavily involved in this crisis, Ings has joined fellow strikers Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Divock Origi in suffering from injury.

Despite not having got to use Ings yet, you'd imagine Klopp is looking forward to working with him, as he spoke about the player in his pre-match press conference. Explaining that Ings is still "not in a perfect way", the German told of how he'd had lunch with him prior to the presser, and that "he's still a long way from being available, but he's here".
