Adam Lallana believes Liverpool have little to complain about after throwing away what looked to be a certain victory against Sunderland as the Englishman described the draw as "disapointing."

With the Reds' season looking to be seriously affected by the draw, it will be hard to find positives to take into the upcoming matches as a Champions League place now looks extremely difficult.

Jürgen Klopp's charges led 2-0 before the 82nd minute when Adam Johnson curled a free kick around the wall, beating Simon Mignolet, before Jermain Defoe doubled his side's tally as he held off Mamadou Sakho to turn and shoot in the 89th minute, earning the visitors a point.

Only ourselves to blame, insists England international

Lallana said it was "disappointing" to concede two goals late on but said his team "only have ourselves to blame" in the 2-2 draw with Sam Allardyce's men.

The 27-year-old did not hold back as he said "these things happen" before sympathising with the critical views, saying: "we need to take full responsibility.

Lallana scored to give his side a two-goal advantage but his effort was not enough to earn his side the win. Reminiscing on stand-in manager's Zeljko Buvac half-time team talk, he said their aim in the second half was to "make the right decision."

Despite performing better as a group in the second 45, the two goals from the Black Cats will ultimately overshadow any positives as it was two much-needed points dropped.

Lallana on Klopp's absence

With Klopp not on the sideline for the Premier League clash, Lallana doesn't believe the German's absence played a part in the late goals conceded.

The midfielder said "hopefully he is well" but on not being able to give him a 'get-well' gift of a win he said it was a "shame."

Looking forward to the next run of fixtures, the former Southampton captain says the best thing is for his side to move on and "get back on the pitch as soon as possible" in order for himself and teammates to "put things right."

Liverpool face West Ham this Tuesday in the FA Cup Fourth Round after successfully beating League Two outfit Exeter City in the previous round despite needing a replay at Anfield to do so. The played the Hammers at the end of last month but could only draw 0-0.

Lallana said his side must now work "even harder" in the upcoming matches as he said his team's league form has "not been great" and declared that they "need to make sure that Tuesday we stay in (The FA Cup)."
