Kolo Touré spoke at his joy of scoring his first goal for Liverpool after Sunday's stunning 6-0 Premier League victory away at Aston Villa and called upon his teammates to replicate similar performances throughout the remainder of the current campaign.

The experienced centre-back applied the headed finish to Jordan Henderson's corner in the 71st minute at Villa Park to give Jürgen Klopp's side their sixth goal of the afternoon after Daniel Sturridge, James Milner, Emre Can, Divock Origi and Nathaniel Clyne had got on the scoresheet before him.

The Reds' No.4 sprinted off in delight as the rest of the Liverpool squad joined him in celebration as they racked up their biggest ever win in the West Midlands for a confidence-boosting three points.

Reds need to perform this well more often, says Touré

"I hadn't scored for a long time," admitted Touré to Liverpoolfc.com after the final whistle, saying that it was "very important" to score "at least one goal for Liverpool" because he's scored at every other team he's played for.

The Ivorian insists he hopes "more goals will now come" as he reflected on "a fantastic day" for Klopp's men, who "played very well as a team" and "defended and attacked very well" according to Touré.

The 34-year-old declared that "the first goal made the difference" and said the "first chance, first goal, with an assist from Philippe Coutinho" set the visitors on their way.

"That's what we need," said the veteran, who added that "top players deliver" but also praised Liverpool for defending and fighting "as a team to get a clean sheet" and insisted that if they can "play like that in every game, there aren't many teams that can stop us."

Touré challenged his side to "play in that kind of way" in every game that they play from now on, saying they "need to be focused and control the game" because they are "a technical team, and physical" due to having "so many young players."

"When we don't have the ball, we chase it," insisted the defender, who finally broke his duck for the club in his 59th appearance since joining three years ago, adding: "When we get the ball, we save it. If we can counter, we do."

He said that they "respected Aston Villa" due to their recent upturn in form but said that they "need to repeat that kind of performance" as he described that's what they "are capable of doing."

The Reds' performance levels were significantly bolstered by the returns of Sturridge and Coutinho who together with Roberto Firmino formed a formidable front-three which overawed Villa's busy back-line.

Liverpool players "love" having Sturridge playing, reveals defender

On the impact of having Sturridge back in the team, Touré labelled the striker "a top player" and said that the team "love" having him in the team because he's "technically amazing and a goalscorer."

Having welcomed a number of players back from injuries, in addition to Sturridge, Touré - whose Anfield contract runs out in the summer - said that "the team is strong" and said they "have Origi, who came on and first chance, first goal" which "showed a young player getting better and improving."

Despite recent criticism of the Belgian, Touré said vowed that Christian Benteke "is playing very well" and said "the goal will come" as well as saying that "young midfield player" Kevin Stewart, who came on to make his league debut, "played very well."

"That's what we need to do," he continued, saying that "everybody giving 100 per cent for the team, fight, play simply and respect the team" will allow them to finish the season strongly and win games in equally as convincing fashion in the near future.
