Emre Can is set for a spell on the sidelines of between four and six weeks, after scans conducted on Friday revealed that the German has ruptured ligaments in his right ankle.
The Liverpool midfielder, 22-years-old, was forced off in Thursday's historic Europa League win against Borussia Dortmund, picking up the injury just seconds before Mamadou Sakho headed in from a corner to tie the game at 3-3.

Dejan Lovren's eventual stoppage time winner was celebrated by the whole team, including Can - the youngster rushing off the bench to celebrate with at the Kop End. His ability to run to the end of the pitch had given fans hope that the injury wasn't as bad as first feared, however that hasn't proved to be the case.
He's now likely to miss the remainder of Liverpool's season, and will certainly be out of the Europa League semi-final against Villarreal, whilst being unlikely to feature in any of the remaining seven Premier League fixtures that the Reds have to play.
Could he make the Europa League final?
Should Jürgen Klopp's men get to the Europa League final, Can may have a slight chance of featuring, depending on his recovery time. That match is on May 18, some four and a half weeks from today.
The news comes as a big blow to Liverpool, given that Can has been in fantastic form for most of the season, notably since the arrival of his countryman Klopp at the club. This was fully evidence on Thursday, Can at the heartbeat of a fantastic move that ended in him assisting Divock Origi for the Reds' first goal.
He now joins club captain and midfield partner Jordan Henderson on the sidelines, leaving Klopp alarmingly short of options in the centre of the pitch.
Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva are the only fit senior players who boast centre-midfield as their natural position, whilst James Milner has played there on a number of occasions this season.
Elsewhere, Kevin Stewart, Pedro Chirivella and Cameron Brannagan have all done well in the position when given the opportunity this season, and will be hoping to pick up some more gametime before the campaign draws to a close.
