Andre Wisdom is expected to leave Liverpool before the end of the transfer window with Celtic his most likely destination.

The Scottish Premier League side, managed by former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, have maintained interested in the defender throughout the summer.

But they have yet to follow up with a formal bid, Liverpool earlier thought to be looking for around £3 million for the 23-year-old - capable of playing at right-back and centre-back.

Some reports suggest the two clubs were in negotiations over a move back in June, but despite nothing having transpired - Celtic appear to be at the front of the running for Wisdom.

The England youth international has no future on Merseyside under Jürgen Klopp with the club likely disappointed by the player's lack of expected progression since his days of immense potential in the Academy.

Wisdom has failed to kick on since being considered one of club's most promising youngsters

He made his first senior appearance for Liverpool under Rodgers back in 2012, going on to feature 19 times and scoring once in the Northern Irishman's first year at Anfield.

But he has not enjoyed a competitive run-out for the club since appearing as a substitute in the 2-2 draw away at Swansea City in September 2013, going on to enjoy a successful loan spell with Derby County later that season despite losing the Championship Play-off Final.

Wisdom has had further temporary loans at West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City both in the Premier League, making 24 appearances at The Hawthorns before falling out-of-favour after Tony Pulis took over as manager.

His spell with Norwich saw him make just 14 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries, who were eventually relegated to the second tier after finishing 19th.

Wisdom since featured regularly across Liverpool's pre-season, but failed to make a positive impression, performing poorly in their 2-1 loss to AS Roma on their tour of the United States in July.

Despite only signing a new long-term deal with the club in May 2015, under Rodgers, he is surplus to requirements and the club are willing to let the player leave if they receive an offer which they consider fair.

It's likely that what they deem a suitable offer could now be less than their earlier £3m asking price as they look to simply get Wisdom off the books.

Balotelli, Markovic and Alberto among the others that could yet leave

The once-England U21 international will not be the only player to leave before the window draws to a close on Wednesday at 11pm.

Lazar Markovic is available for loan, while Mamadou Sakho is thought to be mulling over a short-term spell with Stoke City as he seeks to clear his head elsewhere after a tumultuous few months.

Luis Alberto and Mario Balotelli - neither of whom featured in pre-season - are free to find new clubs, while defender Tiago Ilori could leave having made just three first-team appearances in three years.

The Portugal U23 international, who played at the recent Olympics in Rio, is attracting interest from various clubs across Europe including Olympiakos.

With 10 players out on loan, the latest moves seeing defender Sam Hart join League One side Port Vale and striker Taiwo Awoniyi going to NEC Nijmegen in Holland, Connor Randall could follow.

The right-back, currently back-up for Nathaniel Clyne, has been linked with Wigan Athletic and Preston North End and could be allowed to leave provided any clubs agrees to their 75 per-cent appearance clause.

Any exit would seemingly leave Liverpool short on cover at full-back, although James Milner is currently filling in for Alberto Moreno at the left and Joe Gomez - capable of playing at right-back - is yet to return from injury.
