According to the Sun, Manchester City are ready to discuss a new deal with Edin Džeko. The Bosnian striker, who looked certain to leave the club after failing to impress Roberto Mancini last season, has become a key player in Manuel Pellegrini's squad this term. Injuries and goal-scoring slumps suffered by fellow strikers Sergio Agüero and Álvaro Negredo have seen the 28-year-old make 25 league appearances for the blues so far compared to the 16 he managed under the Italian in last year's disappointing title defence. In those 25 games, Džeko has scored a total of 11 goals including two against arch-rivals Manchester United.
The Independent have revealed that Manchester City pay their players more than any other sports team in the world. The fifth annual Global Sports Salaries Survey showed that the blues pay an average player around £5.3m a year which is the equivalent of £102,000 a week. The data, produced by the Sportingintelligence website for ESPN, casts even more doubt over City's ability to comply with Uefa's financial fair play rules. The club will discover whether they have breached any of those regulations this week.

In other news, Manuel Pellegrini has told the Manchester Evening News that his side 'will fight to the end to win the title' despite handing Liverpool a healthy advantage on Sunday. The fate of the Premier League title may now be out of the Chilean's hands, but the 60-year-old still expects to see points dropped by their rivals.
