Edin Džeko has confirmed that he is negotiating a new contract with Manchester City.

The 28-year-old is keen to stay at the Etihad Stadium after playing a significant role in City's 2013/2014 title-winning campaign in which he netted 16 goals.

(Džeko contributed a number of vital goals to City's title win last term)

In a press conference ahead of City's Guinness International Champions Cup tie against Premier League runners up Liverpool, the striker said: 'I can only say that I’m very happy at City and at the moment we are talking about a contract,' he said in New York ahead of City's game against Liverpool on Wednesday. 'We will see what happens but the main thing is I’m happy at City.'

'I spoke about that at the beginning of last season. It is very important that you feel the confidence that a manager has in you and last season was proof of everything I said.'

Džeko looked set to leave the club after falling down the pecking order under Roberto Mancini, but the Bosnian has been able to showcase his talents under current boss Manuel Pellegrini.
