After losing to Dundee FC 0-2, Manchester City's pre-season results have steadily improved with scorelines of 2-1, 4-1 and 5-1 against Hearts, Sporting Kansas City, and AC Milan respectively. Next up is Premier League runners up Liverpool whose scorelines have looked less convincing with a 1-2 loss to Brondby, a 2-1 win over Preston, a 0-1 loss to AS Roma, and a 1-0 win against Olympiacos. City would love to continue their pattern of scorelines with a 6-1 or a 7-1, which is unlikely given the quality of the Liverpool team.

Brendan Rodgers' side are in the midst of a tactical transition after losing star man Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona. Although re-investing swiftly with the purchases of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Marković, Dejan Lovren, and most recently Divock Origi, the new signings will invariably take time to settle in. Anyone who thinks otherwise can look no further than worst-case-scenario Tottenham Hotspur who never really recovered from losing Gareth Bale.

Regardless of his influx of new signings, Rodgers is undoubtably evolving his game plan. The highly expansive, ultra-direct tactics, although pleasing on the eye and almost resulting in a title, won't cut it in the Champions League and will be rendered useless by bus parking Premier League teams as shown when they played Chelsea. That, combined with losing Suarez, will mean a change in approach. Will they be more aerially dominant with Lambert? Will they be more dribbling orientated with Lallana and Marković? Will their midfield have more steel and power with Emre Can? Time will tell. For now, Liverpool will undoubtably be getting to grips with their new way of playing, bedding in any new signings who are ready, and working on building chemistry between the team.

Needless to say however that this pre-season match will be anything but friendly. City foiled Liverpool's most decent chance in a long time to win the Premier League and, while a pre-season friendly is no place for revenge, they are sure to be up for the match. Likewise, Manchester City will be keen to show the USA why they beat Liverpool to the title and that they are the deserved Champions of England.
