According to the Sun, Manchester City are weighing up a January move for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez.

The 25-year-old scored 15 Premier League goals last season before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in a 4-1 loss to Manchester City in April. Rodriguez was ruled out for six months, and was unable to contribute to England's World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Manuel Pellegrini is keen to infuse his squad with more English talent, and has made the former-Burnley striker a candidate to replace Álvaro Negredo who joined Valencia on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested and are reportedly ready to make a £14m offer for the striker.

Southampton offered Rodriguez a new five-year contract in July in a bid to fend off interest from several Premier League clubs, but the forward is believed to be considering his options before putting pen to paper.
