Four goals from Sergio Aguero downed 10-man Tottenham as Manchester City beat the North-Londoners 4-1, in one of the games of the season, where four penalties were awarded.

Aguero scored four, including two penalties while missing one as well, while Christian Eriksen scored what turned out to be a consolation goal. Roberto Soldado also missed a penalty for Spurs and Federico Fazio was sent off on his Premier League debut.

Sergio Aguero got the hosts underway with a great bit of skill after just 13 minutes. The Argentine got the ball on the left side of the box from Frank Lampard, before cutting inside onto his right foot and slamming a shot past Hugo Lloris at the far post. It was to be the first of a seven-minute goal flurry at the Etihad.

City's lead didn't last long at all however, as Spurs broke away just a minute later and Roberto Soldado played through Christian Eriksen and the Danish winger shot first-time from the right. Joe Hart got a touch on it and sent it up, but it smashed down off the bar and went in. Mauricio Pochettino still looked shocked after the first goal, let alone his side's instant equaliser.

The hosts, however, were straight back in front after 20 minutes, albeit in controversial fashion. Frank Lampard went down easily after a push from Erik Lamela and Jonathan Moss didn't hesitate in giving a penalty, which Sergio Aguero calmly dispatched for his second of the game.

Aguero had numerous chances to complete his hat-trick, some easier than others, including hitting a Jesus Navas pull-back straight at Lloris. After a Christian Eriksen costless-kick came close, City broke straight up the other end and were awarded a second penalty on 33 minutes when Younes Kaboul brought down David Silva.

Aguero had a wonderful chance for his first-half hat-trick if he converted this penalty, but instead he placed one straight down the middle, which Hugo Lloris easily kept out and the Argentine tried to convert the rebound with a wonderful acrobatic effort, but it just went over to give Spurs a huge let-off.

Aguero yet again had a chance for a third when he was played through on goal by Jesus Navas, but Lloris somehow denied him again.

There were was an abundance of chances and the excitement didn't stop there, with chances for Ryan Mason and Christian Eriksen for Spurs, while James Milner and Jesus Navas also tested Lloris in the Tottenham goal.

The second-half started in similar fashion, with both sides looking fantastically sharp going forward, but sloppy at the back.

The controversy continued when Spurs were awarded the third penalty of the game on the hour mark, when Martin Demichelis brought down Roberto Soldado, but the Spaniard failed to convert and Joe Hart pulled off a great save, preserving City's lead.

Manchester City then put the game out of reach, with their third penalty of the match, which Sergio Aguero made sure he scored, after missing his second one. Federico Fazio was sent off. and the Argentine finally had his hat-trick, while he added a spectacular fourth with 15 minutes to go after a Fernandinho allowed the striker to smash the ball home across goal with his left foot to seal the points for Manchester City.

After the masterclass performance by Sergio Aguero, it leaves Manchester City just two points behind Chelsea at the top of the table, while Spurs stay 6th.
