Manchester City have completed the signing of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City for an initial fee of 25 million pounds, it has been confirmed.

The Ivory Coast FA announced the transfer earlier on Wednesday, before Swansea issued a statement clarifying that the deal had not yet been rubber-stamped.

However, both Premier League clubs have now confirmed the switch following a medical the United Arab Emirates, where the forward is at a training camp with Ivory Coast in preperation for the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The two clubs agreed the terms of the transfer at the weekend, with £25m cash up front and a further £3m in performance-related add-ons. The deal makes Bony one of the most expensive African footballers in history.

The 26-year-old striker has agreed terms on a four and a half year deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the 2018/19 season and will wear the number 14, replacing Javi Garcia, who was transfered to Zenit before the start of the season.

Bony spoke with Manchester City FC's website, saying that ''It’s a great feeling for me, it’s a big honour to be here and it’s a great challenge. As a player it’s always good to be part of one of the biggest clubs in the world and it’s a good opportunity for me to be in that situation now – I’m really proud.''

Wilfried scored 9 goals for the Welsh club so far this season, making him joint fifth top goalscorer in the Premier League.
