Manchester City's Fernando has called on his team-mates to focus and make sure they win all of their remaining matches at the tail-end of a disappointing Premier League season.

City bounced back from last week's Manchester derby defeat to beat West Ham 2-0, but the result was not enough for them to climb above fourth in the table - despite third-placed Manchester United's defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.

"For us it's really important, we went through tough moments but now we're back to winning," he said. "Now it's about keeping up our form, and to keep winning our future games."

Speaking about the significance of bouncing back from City's drubbing at the hands of United, Fernando said: "We always want to win in the big matches, so today it was really important to get a victory. Now we want to keep on form, make sure we try to win the next five matches. The team put on a good performance, with good possession of the ball. In terms of my own performance I was happy as well, but we know that we can always improve so I'm just happy that the team managed to get a victory today."

One negative for City in what was a fairly regulation victory was an injury to David Silva after the Spanish schemer was floored by the arm of Cheikhou Kouyaté, requiring eight minutes of treatment.

However, Silva has allayed fears of a broken cheekbone, tweeting: "Many thanks to all the messages of support, all the tests have gone well and I'm already home. The 3 points is what was important!"

Fernando echoed his sentiments, stating that, "On the pitch, it looked like a serious injury, but inside the dressing room when we discussed, it looks like he's going to be ok. We just hope that everything's going to be ok. For us it's very important [to win our remaining games]. We know that the season has not gone perhaps as well as we would have liked, but now it's important for us to focus on the last five matches and make sure that we get a good result from them."
