According to various British newspapers, Premier League side Manchester City are interested in signing Liverpool's Raheem Sterling. The youngster has apparently rejected a contract offer from Brendan Rodgers and furthermore, his agent's planned meeting on Friday was cancelled by the club.

Sky Sports earlier reported that last season's Premier League champions City would be interested in signing Raheem Sterling if the winger was made available by Liverpool. Moreover, the bid would also depend on whether James Milner or French midfielder Samir Nasri would leave the Manchester-based club. However, City have not made any sort of bid for the 20-year-old England international, who still has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.

Although many other Premier League top clubs such as Arsenal are interested in signing Sterling, Liverpool would prefer to sell Raheem Sterling abroad rather than to one of their Premier League rivals.

In Brendan Rodgers' recent press conference, the Liverpool boss stated that he expects Sterling to stay for at least two more seasons: "Raheem has two years left and I expect him to see that two years through and continue to behave as immaculately as he has done.I don’t see Raheem being unhappy. Raheem’s representative made it very clear that they wanted to speak at the end of the season, so for us our concentration is really on the last game of the season, so I am sure talks will take place over the course of the summer."

The Ulsterman also went on to say: "We want to resolve the [contract] situation but it doesn't change my approach to him. There is no problem there."
