Manchester City seem to be having an overhaul of their side especially in the forward department - with Álvaro Negredo completing his permanent move to Valencia earlier in the week and with both Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko linked with moves away from the Etihad after respective disappointing campaigns.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has not really been linked with bringing any new strikers, which could lead to the suggestion that the Chilean is planning to have both Wilfried Bony and Sergio Agüero up-top as his new striking partnership, even if Jovetic and Dzeko were to stay at the club.

If that was the case, could the partnership of Aguero and Bony work? Here is a look to see if such a partnership could be an effective one.

Before he moved to England, Bony had an excellent record in Holland with Vitesse Arnhem scoring 46 goals in 65 games in just two years at the club. However when he made the move to the Liberty Stadium many were sceptical given the numbers of players who had been excellent in the Dutch leagues but completely faltered when they made the move abroad.

Bony turned out to be one of the rare exceptions excelling during his one-and-a-half seasons in south Wales scoring 25 in 52 matches. Despite that record, many were still sceptical when City paid a hefty £25million pounds for the striker to make the switch to the Etihad in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old really has not had the opportunity to show his quality to the City faithful with the Africa Cup of Nations ensuring he didn’t make his debut until the end of the February, in a cameo in the 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle. Despite the lack of opportunities to prove himself, he has still impressed with two goals including one against his old side in Swansea.

Bony’s main strength is his dominant physical presence, the Ivorian has the sheer strength to hold off defenders and get his shot off at the end of it and can provide assists for Agüero which is an added bonus. Strength is not his only advantage as he possesses a thunderous shot - which he has shown off on numerous occasions and should be clinically converting his chances when given a full pre-season at the Etihad.

His potential strike partner in the Argentinian maestro has arguably been City’s best player and one of the best players in the league since his £38million move from Atlético Madrid back in the summer of 2011.

The Argentine stepped it up another level in the 14/15 season, finishing the season with Premier League Golden Boot scoring 26 league goals, he went on to score another six in the UEFA Champions League, including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich which gave them a comeback 3-2 victory. This result simply reiterates how important Aguero is to Pellegrini's side.

The 27-year-old is pretty much the full package. He has the pace, agility and trickery to get past any defender and his touch and passing is something else, obviously his shooting ability is his strongest asset with the Argentine usually scoring any opportunity nine times out of ten.

Overall, the general consensus is that both strikers have enough quality between themselves to work well together. Usually, two forwards are not exactly compatible, but both have individual strengths which can add in unison and terrorise defences in the 2015/16 campaign.
