Manchester City's new addition, 25-year-old central midfielder Fabian Delph, has stated that he's happy and ready for the step-up in class as he gets ready to acclimatise to his new surroundings with the sky Blues ahead of the new campaign.

It has come as quite a surprise considering just a week ago, the Villans' captain denied reports he was joining Manuel Pellegrini's side - as they activated his release clause and were set for personal talks. However, a startling change in proceedings has meant that Delph has joined the Citizens at the second time of asking, which will have frustrated both Villa supporters and his team-mates alike especially because they were encouraged by his initial comments snubbing a move elsewhere.

Set for step-up in class

The transfer fee was believed to be £8million pounds, and although he has been criticised for the way in which he's handled negotiations between the two parties, the deal is now complete and he'll join up with his new team-mates sometime next week in Australia with the final two pre-season fixtures concluding then.

In his first official interview as a City player, he was asked plenty of questions as to whether he was happy with the move, and how he felt to be playing with world-class stars in the side's ranks. He said he was 'really happy' for a 'huge opportunity to play with some of the world's best players', which he confirmed he was looking forward to.

Another Englishman added to City's ranks

When asked about what excites him most regarding the move, he admitted he was looking forward to the 'opportunity to challenge for titles' - which he said will help him to 'push onto the next level' as a player on a personal level.

He said he was eager to 'pick little things they [new team-mates] do to help implement into his game', ultimately improving along the way.

Fabian also stated: "I've spoke to Hart, talked about the facilities - how much the club has come on and what they're trying to do. Really exciting for me."

Afterwards, on the subject of his move to Manchester, he was asked about whether he felt a move to the sky Blues could have been possible watching the side a few years back when they won their first Premier League title. He admitted that although it was 'a crazy game' which sealed City's title win over Queen's Park Rangers in 2012, he said he did not 'look too far forward' and was just 'taking each game as it came', so he'd hope one day to play for a side that could 'challenge for trophies, and luckily he's taken his opportunity' to be on that stage now.
