Both sides have hit the ground running in the Premier League, both are unbeaten in their first three league matches and will be looking to take an early advantage into the rest of the season by beating their local rivals.
Jose vs Pep
Much of the talk throughout Manchester derbies in the past have centred majorly on the players as Sir Alex Ferguson brushed aside countless City bosses throughout his 27-year reign as United manager.
But how times have changed with City now on a par with United as they chase trophies alongside them, and in recent years dominating whilst United struggled under David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal.
It seems the red devils have finally got their house in order with the appointment of Mourinho, whilst City continued their plan for a well-funded European football domination as they brought in the highly rated Guardiola.
The match will be the first meeting between the pair in England and much of the attention will be on two of Europe’s most successful managers. Differences of styles, opinions and philosophies are just some of the things that the two do not agree on.
United have begun the season in strong form recording a home win against Southampton and two away wins against Bournemouth, on the opening day, and Hull City last time out where Marcus Rashford notched the winner in injury time.
City, who top the league on goal difference have dazzled at times in the early stages, recording three Premier League wins over Sunderland, Stoke City and West Ham.
They have also progressed into the group stages of the Champions League after a 6-0 aggregate victory over Romanian side Steaua Bucharest.
The Red Devils will assess full back Antonio Valencia after he returned from international duty with Ecuador late. Henrikh Mkhitaryan could also miss out with an arm injury whilst Luke Shaw should be available after dropping out of the England squad for precautionary reasons.
City have been dealt a major blow after striker Sergio Aguero is suspended for an elbow on Winston Reid in City’s match with West Ham.
New signings Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan could make their debuts after recovering from injury, and Claudio Bravo could replace Willy Caballero in goal after his transfer from Barcelona.
When the sides last met
The sides last met at the Etihad stadium last season as teenager Rashford stepped up to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for Louis Van Gaal’s side.
Rashford’s goal made him the youngest ever player to score in this fixture in the Premier League.
