The Manchester Derby has undoubtedly become most of the most anticipated games of the football calendar, and with a struggling David Moyes going into the fixture with back-to-back wins, confidence was expected in the build-up to the battle against the Citizens.

Despite seemingly being out of the title race following an excruciating start to the campaign, Moyes took an optimistic approach to the fixture which could see Manchester City move three points clear of Chelsea.

"We'll go into our next game confident and ready for a result", said Moyes, looking forward to the fixture. Nevertheless, with City overcoming the Red Devils in September, picking up all three points with a 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium, the majority of the interview turned to the success of previous fixtures, with the Scot praising Wayne Rooney for his memorable lob.

"For Wayne to notice the goalkeeper was out of his box when the ball was played up to him, it was just a great piece of skill, great ability and the execution was fantastic."

"I think everybody flashed back to Beckham's goal. There are similarities. We were excellent against West Ham and the only disappointment was we didn't score more."

However, some fans may favour his February 2011 goal, which saw the Englishman rise above current City duo Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards, before finishing home an outstanding overhead kick in a 2-1 victory.

When reflecting on his most recent goal against West Ham United, Rooney exclaimed:

"It was a nice goal and it put us 1-0 up. I remember Beckham's goal, it was one of the most iconic goals in Premier League history." He continued, "That was a great strike but they are two different goals."

United currently trial their Manchester rivals by 12 points, while sitting five points off the fifth placed finish many fans are for. Nonetheless, the recent 2-0 win at Upton Park, succeeding an exhilarating 3-0 victory in the Champions League to guide United through to the next round.

The draw with Bayern Munich will be no easy task for Moyes' boys, but for now David Moyes will relish the challenge facing him in the mid-week fixture.

With Moyes seeming to turn away from questions regarding the upcoming fixture, Wayne Rooney was not one to shy away, stating "It's an exciting game and hopefully we'll get the result."
