Manchester United are hoping that they will be able to secure a staggering £30m deal for Southampton and England's highly-rated young left-back, Luke Shaw.

The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with Chelsea and Manchester United for the past year, but it seems Manchester United have pulled ahead in the race to sign the full-back.

United have been looking to bolster their squad that has disappointed fans this season, sending scouts all over the World. Last weekend, scouts from the club watched Marco Reus in Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 win against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Other targets have included Toni Kroos who United have been watching for the past 6 months. Attempts to rebuild following a pitiful first season in charge at Manchester United for David Moyes seem to be moving faster as the season is coming to a close.

Despite reports, it seems David Moyes will remain at United next season, and he and the club are confident they can pip Chelsea to Shaw. Yet, Chelsea remain determined to bring Shaw to Stamford Bridge. With Cesar Azpilicueta and Ashley Cole proving they are fit to start for Chelsea and Azpilicueta coming into impressive form, Shaw's only fear of joining his England team mate, Cole, at the club, is that he may be on the sidelines for the majority of the time.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are said to want Shaw to fill the void that will be produced when the expected departure of Patrice Evra occurs this summer. At only 18, United want Shaw to stay at the club for a decade.

Southampton insist they have no need to sell any of their squad, and have done so on numerous occasions. Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren has also attracted clubs from across England.

But United vice-chairman, Ed Woodward expects to complete at least one transfer before the World Cup starts in Brazil in June. United are looking at the Bundesliga a lot for signings, as they attempt to steal Marco Reus from Dortmund, and Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich. Beating Chelsea to Shaw would be the big one though, it would show that United can still beat the teams that they have fallen away from this season.

United are confident they can take Reus away. His close teammate, Mario Gotze departed for Bayern Munich last summer, and Robert Lewandowski is now on his way the Bavarians in the summer. With Jurgen Klopp rumoured to be on his way out, and a rebuild beginning at Dortmund, a deal for Reus could easily be agreed as the yellow and blacks look to fund the project ahead.

United's board are set to be putting £200m on a plate for Moyes to spend this summer, and United fans will be expecting him to use it after a season of letting the league title go, and falling out of the Champions League spots for the first time in 19 years. As well as spending, Captain, Nemanja Vidic is on his way to Inter Milan, agreeing a deal a few weeks ago. Vince-captain Patrice Evra, former-captain Rio Ferdinand, Javier Hernández and Shinji Kagawa are all expected to be on the outgoing list for the summer as well.
