Reports coming out of Portugal in past days suggested that Sporting Lisbon's Marcos Rojo refused to train in order to push a move towards admirers Manchester United. Last night, however, the Argentine apologised to club officials for his behaviour and resumed training today.

"I was hot-headed and I'm sorry" Rojo said last night.

The versatile defender has been subject to multiple bids from numerous clubs after a stand-out World Cup and United are said to be the biggest admirers.

In wake of United's 2-1 Premier league defeat to Swansea this past Saturday, Louis Van Gaal admitted that the club were in need of defensive replacements. Ajax's Daley Blind has also been identified as a potential signing with Van Gaal supposedly very keen on bringing his fellow countryman, who he managed at the World Cup, to Old Trafford.

United have allegedly tabled a £16 million bid for Rojo and been knocked back but it is said they refuse to go any higher. Sporting have also shown interest in bringing back former player Nani and United may use the midfielder in any further negotiations.
