Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could face a few weeks on the sidelines with a dislocated finger, picking up the injury in training on international duty.

Currently with the Spanish national team for the European Championship qualifiers, the Spanish Football Association confirmed they had ruled the 24-year-old out of the qualifier against Belarus in Huelva on Saturday.

De Gea will be assessed by the national team doctors, and a decision will subsequently made on whether to allow the former Atletico Madrid youngster to return to Carrington.

"David de Gea was forced to stop training after suffering an injury to the fifth finger of his right hand.

"Having suffered a similar situation in the past, De Gea will remain with the squad and will wait to see how he improves."

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has already been ruled out of the Group C tie, courtesy of a hamstring injury, and now both Spain and Manchester United will be anxious about the extent of the injury, and time required out of action.

De Gea will be assessed by the national team doctors, and a decision will subsequently made on whether to allow the former Atletico Madrid youngster to return to Carrington.

It is believed the Spaniard could face up to four weeks out, but a timescale is yet to be confirmed by doctors. With De Gea out of action, Louis van Gaal will have to call upon the likes of Anders Lindegaard, Ben Amos or Sam Johnstone.

United face trips to Arsenal, Southampton and Tottenham within the next month, while also hosting Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool.
