Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has said that beating bitter rivals Liverpool 3-0 was 'fantastic'.

The Spaniard was awarded the Man of the Match award, producing 8 magnificent saves and keeping a clean sheet, despite United winning 3-0.

“I’m really happy with the three points against Liverpool,” he said.

“I thought we were very good and scored three goals – it’s fantastic."

De Gea stopped Raheem Sterling in the first ten minutes and again in the twelfth minute which sprung a Manchester United counter-attack for captain Wayne Rooney to score from thanks to a great piece of work from Antonio Valencia.

"I saved twice from Sterling in the first half and a few times from Balotelli in the second half."

He and Robin van Persie spoke to SkySports together and while De Gea was stopping shots left, right and centre, the Dutch striker scored his fourth in as many games. Juan Mata doubled Manchester United's lead 5 minutes before half-time after Rooney's early goal.

"At the other end, we scored three goals, so it’s unbelievable. We’ve had a lot of injuries and we’ve had to change the defenders every week, but everyone played really well today."

He said that United wanted to be top of the league but they must take it one game at a time and not get to far ahead of themselves.

"We want to be at the top of the league but we have to take it game by game. We have to keep training hard and produce results like we did today.”
