Louis Van Gaal is eager for his side's form to continue in their Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle United, as he spoke to MUTV before addressing the media in his pre-match conference.

The Dutchman revealed none of United's injured players are expected to return on Boxing Day. However, Chris Smalling, who suffered a muscle tear in the win at Southampton, "maybe" has a chance. Manchester United may be forced to deploy Michael Carrick in the back-four once more as they struggle with injuries.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils boss is eager for United's form outlined his intentions to develop Old Trafford into something of a fortress over the coming months, with a home game against the Magpies next up. They've won seven of their nine home matches so far, with their only defeat coming on the opening day against Swansea City.

LvG looked quite calm as he began his press-conference, despite a very busy & tiresome period. He seemed quite confident with their fixtures in this busy festive period, but stated boldly: "My problem is I have a lot of injured players. That is the problem with these matches in the coming weeks."

Van Gaal was also asked regarding Radamel Falcao's recent development after scoring a vital goal in a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa recently, to which the boss replied: ""Falcao can be in great form, but the team has to be in great form,."

Furthermore, the 63-year-old was also asked in regards to the recent Gareth Bale speculation in the media and replied in typical style: "I cannot discuss that with you. I can only discuss with my CEO".

Van Gaal also welcomed Sir Alex Ferguson's praise but admitted it puts him under extra pressure. Former United boss Sir Alex claimed Van Gaal will prove a success at Old Trafford once all of his injured players are back. Van Gaal responded that he is delighted to have Ferguson's endorsement, but conceded the legendary manager's words mean he must deliver over his three-year deal at Manchester United saying: "It's fantastic to have his support, which I need but it's also pressure that you have his support so you need to give results."

Overall, the United boss seemed very confident his side could restore their form on a busy Boxing Day, a day which remains a tradition in the football calendar and this year promises to be another cracker.
