Manchester United defender Saidy Janko has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the remainder of the season, following Andy Kellett’s arrival.

The 19-year-old Swiss right-back will experience the rigours of senior football for the first time when battling in the Championship, as the Trotters push for the play-offs while trailing AFC Bournemouth.

Featuring for the Under-21’s on transfer deadline day as Warren Joyce’s men fell to defeat at the hands of Fulham, Janko was believed to make a sudden late switch. As Jesse Lingard pulled out of the squad to complete his deal, the transfer may have come unexpected to the former FC Zurich youth product.

Janko has been influential in the youth set-up at Old Trafford since his arrival in September 2013, and was voted as the Reserves Player of the Year in his first season at the club. He later earned his first competitive start for the club, making his debut in a 4-0 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons in the League Cup.

His departure follows that of Marnick Vermijl to Sheffield Wednesday, although only on temporary terms as Kellett joins from Bolton Wanderers. Leaving the Under-21’s short in defence, Janko’s desire for senior football required the 21-year-old to join the other way with identical terms.

Saidy Janko is tipped as one of Manchester United’s hottest prospects.
