Manchester United and Liverpool is one of the biggest rivalries in the Premier League. The game will be played on Saturday and they will be meeting at Liverpool’s home ground Anfield.

United will have to play attacking football this weekend if they are to come away from Liverpool with all three points. The team has not been playing fluent football this season but, they have managed to still get enough points to stay in the Champions League spots.

They will have to replicate their performance against Tottenham last weekend which ended in a 3-0 victory. United showed pace and verve, especially in the first half when they gained their three goal lead. The goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney proved that when United push forward and attack teams, they can get the results they deserve.

Wayne Rooney has started to play upfront again in the last few matches and he has turned out to be the saviour of the Manchester United attack. United have been quite poor throughout the season in terms of scoring goals but, in the last three Premier League games, they have scored six.

Players like Ander Herrera and Juan Mata should play in this fixture as they add a quick attacking threat with a lot of movement. Herrera in his last seven games scored five goals. He also offers strength in the midfield that could help hold back Jordan Henderson.

Mata is known for his dribbling and movement and will prove to be a genuine threat against Liverpool. The Reds do not have the quickest of defences and Mata may prove a problem as he has the ability to just walk through the gaps that have been there in a few games this season.

United will also have to get past the re-invented Simon Mignolet. Since he returned in the New Year, due to Brad Jones getting a thigh injury, he has become an efficient and trusted member of the Liverpool squad. He has sustained 12 clean sheets this season, eight of those coming in 2015.

The reverse fixture at Old Trafford in December was the last time that Brendan Rodgers’ side actually lost in the Premier League. Since that game, they have been on a 13 game unbeaten streak and they have closed the gap between the two teams to two points.

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson thinks that the best way United could approach the game against Liverpool is to attack the side. This shouldn’t be a problem with the fine-tuned team Louis Van Gaal has been playing.

He said: "It is going to make it a hard run-in for Liverpool if we can go to Anfield and win the game and that is how positive the players have to be. They have to be on the front foot thinking 'If we win this game it will make it more difficult for Liverpool’.

"I am sure it will be highly competitive and played at a real fast pace but it is one for players to look forward to these challenges.”
