Angel Di Maria was brought in by Manchester United for a British transfer record at the start of the season to strengthen the squad, but the winger has not yet built up to his £59.7m price tag.

The former Real Madrid star has not started a match for United since their FA Cup defeat to Arsenal on March 9.

In the same match, Di Maria was first booked for diving, before tugging referee Michael Oliver's shirt as he walked away leaving him with no choice to send him off.

Since the absence of the 27-year old, Juan Mata has replaced the Argentinian and has completely taken advantage. The Spaniard has notched in three goals in the last four games, including a brace against rivals Liverpool.

The reds travel to Chelsea tomorrow evening and after a number of brilliant performances, van Gaal is likely to stick with the same team that beat Man City last week - depending on injuries.

In the past few weeks, Ashley Young and Mata have started for United and should start once again this weekend.

Young was an influential figure in the Manchester Derby last week and fully deserves the opportunity to feature once more. Mata comes up against his former club in arguably the best form of his United career and like Young, should start for the reds.

Di Maria has struggled for form in recent months and starting the winger would mean a change of formation for van Gaal's men. It is visible to see the lack of confidence that the former Madrid player has.

The reds should stick to what they have been used to in the past few weeks and bring on Di Maria if things aren't going their way, but United should expect a stern test at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
