Radamel Falcao has been told by Manchester United that they do not want to make his loan deal from Monaco permanent.

Louis van Gaal has spoken to Colombia's top goalscorer and informed him of his decision not to use the clause in his loan move to buy him for around £40 million.

29-year-old Falcao has failed to find the net for the Reds in recent months, hitting his last goal in January in a 3-1 win against Leicester City.

His loan move originally cost £6 million for a year as well as an estimated £10 million in wages for the striker.

It has been an unsuccessful year for Falcao at United, making just 17 starts in all competitions and scoring just 4 times as he failed to regain the scintillating form he had when he was seen as the best striker in Europe.

A serious knee injury which forced him out of the whole of the World Cup hasn't returned but seems to be the issue of him getting back to the stunning highs of previous seasons.

Falcao is believed to want to remain in the Barclays Premier League with Chelsea or Arsenal his favoured destinations. Manchester United and Louis van Gaal will definitely need to look for a new striker now with Falcao departing and a second may be needed with bids coming in for Robin van Persie as well.
