Manchester United today announced that Memphis Depay is officially a United player, United agreed a fee with PSV Eindhoven for Depay before the end of season, at the time Van Gaal said United had to get the deal done early in order to stop the player move to Paris St Germain. Van Gaal himself had to intervene and tell the player that he wanted him to him at Old Trafford, having worked together previously when Van Gaal was in charge of the Dutch national team.

Depay has signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford with the option of a fifth year. Depay made 124 appearances and scored 50 goals for PSV’s first team, having come through the youth system. Last season he scored 28goals in all competitions as he help PSV win the Eredivisie for the first time in seven years. He has made 16 appearances so far for the Dutch national side, scoring 3 goals. Depay is delighted to at Old Trafford and working with Louis Van Gaal again.

This is a dream come true for me, to play for the biggest club in the world and also to have the chance to work with someone I believe is the best manager in the world, Louis Van Gaal. I have great belief in my ability and I work hard to strive to achieve my dreams.

Having worked with Memphis with the national side Van Gaal knows what sort of player he’s getting, while he has every belief in his ability he knows it will take him time to adapt to the Premier League.

I know Memphis well from our time working together in the Netherlands national team. He is a young versatile player who has the ability to play in a number of different positions.

It will take time for Memphis to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League but I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a great footballer for this club and he is at the right club to continue the good work he has done so far.

Although Depay is moving from another country and maybe a league that is not as strong as the Premier League, he will be helped to settle at the club by the manager, and several players he knows from the Dutch team in Robin Van Persie and Daley Blind.

I think it will be a little easier. I can ask the guys what happens around the club but also my own feelings will give me a sense

Depay will most likely be playing on the wing for United, who have a great history of wingers, with the likes of Best, Giggs and Ronaldo all have graced Old Trafford. Depay is looking to let his feet done the talking and develop into one of the greats of the Premier League and Manchester United.

I’m going to let my feet speak. I hope I can develop here in the Premier League and I hope I can be like those great legends one time in my career. I’m going to work hard, so let’s see. I believe I can be a great player for Manchester United
