Wayne Rooney on his official website revealed his thoughts on a few topics. He believes that Manchester United will be title contenders for sure next season and says the team is on the right track.

Rooney isn't happy that United have gone two seasons without a trophy and he believes Louis van Gaal's squad will re establish themselves as champions again. United finished fourth last season and Rooney feels next season is United's time to bring the title back.

The striker was very outspoken on last season, his relationship with Van Gaal and about England.

“I honestly believe we will go far next year," said Rooney and he believes United will be "challenging for the league", in the not to distant future.

Rooney expressed his anger and dismay how things started last season in the league as in the "first 10 to 11 games we only had around 13 points", Rooney also says "if you see how United ended the season, it shows we could have been up there with a better start"

Rooney expressed how United had "dominated and outplayed" most teams in the league last season but "never took the chances that were presented to them", he felt United could have been closer to Chelsea if they had taken those chances.

“The most important thing is that as a squad, including the manager and myself, we believe we are close to challenging for the title", also Rooney feels that, "with a couple of signings in the summer", then United will have a great chance to push on next season and win the league.

Rooney wants to "win as many cups as possible", as he feels a club like Manchester "United should be always win trophies and he feels next season, "United can put that right.”

Rooney on how he felt last season went

Louis Van Gaal led Manchester United back into the Champions league at his first attempt last season. Rooney was satisfied with how things went in the league despite only winning one of the last six games.

Rooney knows United will have to improve on last season and he says it would have been a "disaster" had United not qualified for the Champions League for two seasons in a row. He was asked about all his thoughts on last season during the Q+A.

Rooney was asked did United meet the targets set and replied by saying, "Our main target this year was to get back into the top four, and we have done that so in that sense it’s not bad at all,” said Rooney.

He says that it takes time to get use to the "new managers philosophy, new coaches and a lot of new players", given these things Rooney said, "it was always going to be a tough ask for us to go and win the Premier League."

Rooney was asked about not winning any silverware last season and he responded saying, “It was a bit disappointing not to win any silverware, especially the FA Cup after the defeat to Arsenal in the quarter-finals; we had a great chance of going on to win that."

Rooney on how things are going under Louis Van Gaal

Rooney when speaking to his official website, revealed he is enjoying working under Louis van Gaal, who made him his captain and has praised him for his remorseless will to win even in training.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the manager and have learned a lot from him, his will to win and his attention to detail are second to none,” said Rooney.

Rooney talks about Van Gaal's training sessions, “In terms of training sessions, every session means something, even if it’s a little game, he wants the team who he is working with to win and he’s not happy if they don’t.

“His knowledge of the game is incredible, prior to games or post game analysis, he picks up on everything and nothing goes unnoticed"
, Rooney giving praise to his manager and loves working with him.

Rooney gave an insight into Van Gaal by saying, “He’s also great to work with, in training and match days he’s very serious but he’s also very approachable if the players need to talk to him, he’s genuinely a nice guy.”

Rooney on how everything is going for England and his ambitions

Rooney also revealed he is excited at the possibility of become England's record goalscorer as he is only one goal short of Bobby Charlton's record of 49. He is excited about being the England captain also and breaking United's goal scoring record too and wants achieve his goals sooner rather than later.

Rooney was asked what are his personal goals and he replied saying, “My personal goals are to perform for my club and country to the best of my ability, and to make sure I’m the best captain I can be."

“I’ve always set my standards as high as possible and that hasn’t changed. I want to help both Manchester United and England win trophies and next year I will have the chance to do that",
Rooney says he was disappointed with some of his own performances last season.

“I still have personal targets of becoming the all time leading goal scorer for both England and Manchester United, that’s something that is still in my mind", Rooney on his personal targets he hopes to achieve.

Rooney revealed were his priorities lay, "my main priority will be to help both my club and country perform the best they possibly can.”
