French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has completed his move from Southampton to Manchester United for a transfer fee of £24million pounds.

The 25-year-old underwent a medical at Carrington on Sunday and has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option to extend for a further year.

Schneiderlin said he was "delighted to be a Manchester United player."

He added: "Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make.”

Schneiderlin, who has nine international caps so far for his native France, ended his career at the Saints after seven years at the St Mary’s. Making his debut way back in 2008, he totalled up 253 appearances and netted 15 goals in that time.

United manager Louis van Gaal spoke of his delight with the signing saying: "Morgan is a very talented player with great energy and ability. His skills will complement the players that we already have and I am very pleased that we have been able to complete this deal before the tour to the United States."

The Frenchman became United’s fourth signing of the summer with PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay, Torino’s Matteo Darmian and Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger all joining the club this summer.

Schneiderlin continued: "I have enjoyed seven very happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad to help this great club be successful was too good to miss."

Schweinsteiger also completed his move to the Red Devils on Monday on a three-year deal claiming: "Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for."

The 30-year-old is set to become the first German to pull on a Manchester United shirt in the first-team, as he and the other three new additions to the team as they have been named in the squad for the club's tour of the USA.

The first opportunity for fans to see the new signings in action could be Friday when United come up against Club America in the opening match of the tour.
