It took Memphis Depay just two games in a Manchester United shirt to score his debut goal for the club. During their 3-1 victory over San Jose Earthquakes, the Dutchman bagged what Man Utd fans hope is the first of many goals for the club.

Depay continues United's recent tradition of recruiting Dutch players after the likes of Jaap StamRuud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie, now joining compatriot Daley Blind at Old Trafford.

United's real flair players thus far though - perhaps surprisingly - have hailed away  from the Netherlands. Where the likes of Arsenal have had Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars, Chelsea with Arjen Robben and Spurs with Rafael van der Vaart, could Memphis Depay become one of the Oranje greats, for The Red Devils

The greatest Dutch players have all been technicians of the game to go with their fleet of foot. The list is numerous; Edgar Davids, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard; all exponents of the total football era of Dutch football. For Depay, there is such hope for the £25m arrival from PSV Eindhoven, some are touting the 21 year-old as the next breakout star for the Netherlands.

2014/15 Eredivisie top scorer

Depay was top scorer in last season's Eredivisie, with 22 goals. In comparison, that almost doubles Wayne Rooney's tally of 12, as United's top scorer last term.

During the last decade,  the real purveyors of flair for Man United have been Nani, the soon to depart Angel di Maria and of course Cristiano Ronaldo. Except for the latter though, form had been their main issue in the English top-flight. The success of Depay will largely be determined by the matter at hand.

Interestingly, Robben, Overmars and Van der Vaart were all predominently left-footed, as is Depay. But of the three, only Arsenal's magician Overmars, could be best compared to Depay, playing on the left and cutting in on his other foot If Depay could even come close to Overmars' double-winning exploits at Highbury in 1998, Louis Van Gaal will be on to a winner.

During Overmars time in England, right-backs up and down the land were tormented by his pace and this will also be the case, when facing Depay's ferocious speed.

It is too soon to tell if Memphis Depay can become a United legend, but the Dutch speedster has all the tools to become a fan favourite. Dutch players have tended to make the transition with ease into the Premier League and all signs so far, point to Depay being a regular fixture at Old Trafford.
