Manchester United's legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has urged the new signing Sergio Romero to settle quickly at Manchester United.

Romero joined United on free transfer

The Argentine number one joined on a free transfer from Sampdoria this week having played for Argentina at the 2015 Copa America in Chile, where Argentina lost out in the final to the hosts. He has been reportedly signed as a second choice after David De Gea.

The Danish believes that Argentine should quickly adapt to United’s way of playing if he wants to be successful at Old Trafford. Schmeichel was very successful with United as he won fivePpremier League titles and a Champions League title at Old Trafford. He believes “the goalkeeping job at Manchester United has always been important.”

United failed to replaced the Dane when he left until Edwin Van Der Saar joined the club from Fulham after six years of uncertainty in the goalkeeping department.

Schmeichel says Romero must 'inspire that confidence' in defenders

While talking to Goal, Schmeichel revealed the major reason behind the failure of various keepers who were signed to replace him was that “they didn’t have that confidence, didn’t inspire that confidence onto their team-mates and their immediate defenders.”

So he has adviced the Argentine keeper needs to be aggressive as  “Manchester United is a very aggressive, attack-minded football club, it’s chasing wins and it’s chasing goals.”In his opinion United while attacking commit a lot of players ahead so it is necessary to have “strong defenders and a strong goalkeeper who can understand what’s going to happen next in terms of what the team is doing.

Louis van Gaal last week after the 2-0 loss against Paris Saint Germain in the International Champions Cup revealed that there is a very huge uncertainity over the future over De Gea.

He suggested that they are in a position which is not favourable for the club and player. With a fall out with Victor Valdes and a very doubtful future of Anders Lindegaard, Manchester United would surely need one more goalkeeper along with Romero if De Gea gets his favoured move to Real Madrid this summer.
