Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has expressed that he felt 'very weird' after returning to Goodison Park last Sunday for Duncan Ferguson's testimonial.

The English skipper replaced Tom Cleverley for the last 15 minutes against Villarreal, who spoiled the big day for Ferguson by beating the Toffees 2-1.

Rooney got his big money move ten years ago when he joined Manchester United for then a world record fee for a teenager. While talking to media Rooney said “it's nice to come back here [Goodison Park].” 

Rooney was “delighted with the great reception” that he got when he came on the pitch. He also suggested that it was great to wear the blue strip again, saying that “it was great for me, my kids and Coleen.”

Everton and Rooney parted ways on a very tense note so he endured a tense relationship with the Everton fans. But on Sunday they applauded him and he was happy with fans reaction. The United captain also accepted the fact that it was “very weird feeling” as it was “bit different today, going into the home dressing-room again.”

Rooney paid tribute to Duncan Ferguson

Rooney paid his tribute to Duncan Ferguson, “it was a big day for Duncan and he really enioyed the game and it was nice to see him back on the pitch again.” The latter was also full of praise for Rooney and suggested that “it's incredible what he's done today, playing in the royal blue colours.”

Rooney joined up the United squad again on Monday as they gear up for the new season, facing Tottenham Hotspur in the opening day fixture of the Premier League. Rooney thrived last year with captaincy at United; playing in various position. This year Louis Van Gaal sees him as the sole striker and believes that he can be his twenty goal striker which they missed last year.
