Ashley Young has signed a new three year deal at Manchester United, with an optional one year extension.

Young signs 3 year deal at United

The Englishman had a great season in red in 2014/15, displacing big money signing Angel Di Maria on the left wing.

Di Maria has now left the club for Paris Saint-Germain but Young, once a scapegoat at Old Trafford, had committed his future to the club.

Young was delighted to sign a new contract because "to be able to continue to play football at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family."

Van Gaal happy to have 'professional' Young commit future

United boss Louis van Gaal says that the club are "delighted that Ashley [Young] has signed a new contract" because he is "very professional" and in the dressing room is a "great presence."

Young joined United in 2011 from Aston Villa and began his career in stunning fashion at Old Traffprd, playing a part in the United side that humiliated Arsenal 8-2. Young scored two goals that day and went on to grab another few in the 2011/12 season.

Yet after that the former-Watford winger began to fade away from the starting line-up and drew criticism for diving and his performances.

Last season was his redemption year as he outplayed Di Maria and became a regular figure in the starting eleven, making 26 league appearances.

Young must continue good performances with arrival of Memphis

Young will be hoping to continue such form that earned him his starting place, especially with the arrival of Memphis Depay this summer, who scored his first goal for United during pre-season.
