Manchester United defender Daley Blind has insisted that he has adapted well to his new centre back position. The Dutchman has started all the games in the heart of the defence and secured three consecutive cleansheets in Premier League.

Blind joined Manchester United last year from Ajax for £14 million.

Blind played in several positions last year

He was primarily signed to play as a holding midfielder as it was the position in which he won player of the year in Dutch league in 2013-14 but due to injuries to Luke Shaw, he was played at left back frequently and he did well in that position. He also occasionally played as centre back last year due to injury problems to other defenders.

This summer United have strengthened the midfield by bringing in Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Due to these transfers and the improved fitness of Shaw, Blind is playing as Van Gaal’s left footed ball-playing centreback.

Ready to adapt wherever team needs him

While talking to club’s official website, Blind suggested that he “can adapt very quickly" and "he is just focused on doing my best for the team.” The Dutch international admitted "that becoming Man of the Match against Villa was also a sign for him that he is doing well.”

Blind has hardly done anything wrong in the centre back position despite his lack of pace and small physical stature .Earlier this month Blind said that he is clever and good enough to play in the heart of the defence.

Hails Depay for settling quickly at United

Blind also hailed his international teammate Memphis Depay for quickly settling in the new club. The winger joined his countryman this year at United from PSV Eindhoven. Blind admitted that Depay “settled in very well and has a lot of talent" already showing at United that "he’s very strong and quick and a real personality.”

Blind also believes that “Depay knows what he can do and has a lot of faith in himself". Having had to settle in at a United that's ever-changing already, Blind knows what necessary and he say what Depay does is "a good way to be at a club like United.”

United now gear up for the second leg of the Champions League qualifier tie against Club Brugge on Wednesday after suffering a frustrating draw against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.
