Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal is believed to be watching the situation with West Brom striker Sadio Berahino very closely.

His situation at the Midlands club has intensified after a third bid from Tottenham was rejected in little over a week.

Spurs bid for England youngster, United watching

The first was last Tuesday believed to be in the region of £18m  and the second coming on Monday after the striker handed in a written transfer request, the third came early Wednesday believed to be worth £22m but once again it was rejected.

The Baggies seemed determined to keep their prized asset with Chairman Jeremy Pearce saying after the second bid that their position on Berahino remained “unchanged” and that his sale is not on their “agenda”.

The England Under-21 striker was left out of the squad by Tony Pulis in their 3-2 defeat to champions Chelsea last weekend which saw them slip to the bottom of the table with one point from a possible nine.

United lacking in striking department

It is no secret that United are lacking in the forward department with the sale of Robin van Persie to Turkish side Fenerbahce and sending Radamel Falcao back to parent club Monaco before the Colombian moved to Stamford Bridge.

That has only left Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as the only out-and-out strikers and there seems a need to invest.

The Red Devils have been linked with numerous names over the summer months, but Van Gaal may have found a solution in Marouane Fellaini.

The Dutchman revealed ahead of the club’s Champions League play-off second leg against Club Brugge is planning to use the former Everton man as a striker this campaign.

The Belgian has said that he is keen to play upfront if Van Gaal believes that is the best position for him.
