Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has told the English press to give Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger time to settle in his new team.

Schweinsteiger joined United earlier this summer from Bayern Munich after seventeen years at the German champions. Known to many as 'Mr Bayern Munich' the 31-year-old's move was a huge surprise.

United fans already love Schweinsteiger

Before he even played a game, however, United fans fell in love with him and his noticeable world class ability to read the game and know what to do every time has made him a huge fan favourite at Old Trafford already.

However, some of the English media have labeled Schweinsteiger 'too old' or 'not fit' and Ozil says this 'drastic interim judgment' is 'not fair towards' Schweinsteiger.

Ozil says early judgement of Scweinsteiger is unfair

Ozil and Schweinsteiger played alongside each other in Germany's 2014 World Cup winning side, both playing in the final where they beat Argentina 1-0.

Schweinsteiger has Ozil's backing, who knows what it's like to need to settle in to English football and Schweinsteiger "certainly needs some time to adjust to [the] Premier League" and English media most "allow him a bit of time."

Schweinsteiger has shown quality in World Cup, says Ozil

Ozil says that "Basti has shown the whole world at the World Cup what a leader he is." In the final he played on with blood coming out of his eye, masterminding Germany's performance and his 120 minutes has been called the greatest World Cup final performance in decades by some.

Despite this some haven't been kind to "immense" Schweinsteiger, says Ozil but "whenever the English media writes about" him they put that he is "a World Cup winner before his name." Now, says Ozil he's "the German world champion who should make the difference for United."

Schweinsteiger should be judged in crucial game, Ozil tells media

Ozil has told the English media to not judge Schweinsteiger just "because of a couple of touches to the ball in a season" but instead to judge him "when the crucial games are played."

Schweinsteiger started his first game for United against Newcastle United in a 0-0 draw in the Premier League last Saturday and is in the 18-man squad to face Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
