FULL-TIME: Manchester United 3-0 Sunderland. Dominant United, weak Sunderland after half time. Goals from Memphis, Mata and Rooney give them the three goals, three points and take them top of the league above rivals City!

GOAL! Juan Mata scores late for Unite dominant performance reflectedby a dominant scoreline.

84' Cattermole booked.

77' Lovely build-up play from Manchester United. Attacking with fluidity and incisiveness. Juan Mata looks to finish it from about 20 yards but Costel Pantillimon gets down very well to tip it wide. He then claims the resulting corner easily.

75' Another United substitution: Memphis Depay comes off for Ashley Young. Just missed a great chance, gets a good rest in before this week's Champions League game on Wednesday. Got his first Premier League goal today, a good day for the young Dutchman.

73' United substitution: Phil Jones comes on for Daley Blind. Return to the Premier League after a few months for Jones. Blind had a nasty clash of heads before coming off.

68' Sunderland substitution: Sebastian Larsson comes on for Ola Toivonen

67' Superb play from Martial. The French youngster drives through the open Sunderland half with the ball, Memphis supporting him. He then offloads well to the Dutchman who's finish is mediocre as best. Should have been 3-0. Now  Bastian Schweinsteiger on for Michael Carrick.

65' Anthony Martial keeps bringing surprises. His movement off the ball is causing havoc for the Sunderland defence. Few minutes ago he had the ball in the box for about 20 seconds, looking to turn his way to goal. He lost the ball eventually, then got it back. Enjoying watching him.

61' Bastian Schweinsteiger warming up for Manchester United. You'd suspect Michael Carrick would come off for him.

60' David De Gea stops Sunderland from getting back in the game with a superb save again. Van Aanholt comes down the left-hand side and strikes hard but De Gea stops him well.

Tweet from @HarryRobinson64: Wayne Rooney has leveled Denis Law's record of 171 league goals for Manchester United. #mufc

54' De Gea's foot the saviour for United, deny Toivonen from close range. As usual, De Gea keeping United in front.

50' Billy Jones gets a booking from Mike Jones, today's referee.

It came off Rooney's right knee, but he really won't care. He looks extremely relieved as he celebrates. Martial made the goal, swerving through players before cutting it back to Rooney who, from three yards out, nets United's second just 38 seconds into the second half.

45' GOAL! United double their lead and it's Wayne Rooney after 1000 minute goal drought in the Premier League. Martial makes it!

45' We're back underway at Old Trafford, Steven Fletcher has replaced Adam Johnson for Sunderland.

H.T. Manchester United 1-0 Sunderland

48' Crucial goal! Blind chips the ball over the Sunderland defence and into the path of Mata on the right hand side of the penalty area. Mata opts to subsequently square the ball to Memphis on the edge of the penalty area, who coolly slots the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

GOAL!!!! Memphis gives Man Utd the lead!!!!

45' There will be four minutes added on at the end of the first half.

42' Man Utd supporters will be undoubtedly displeased by their side's first half performance. In spite of their territorial dominance, the Red Devils have not looked capable of finding a way through the Sunderland defence.

38' Yellow card: Adam Johnson (Sunderland)

36' Martial is struggling with a suspected knee injury, however he looks set to continue.

28' Despite dominating the early exchanges, Man Utd have yet to create any clear cut chances.

22' Memphis rifles the ball goalward from the edge of the penalty area, however Pantilimon is on hand to palm the ball over the crossbar.

17' Lee Catermole looks to be in considerable pain in the middle of the park. The Sunderland captain is not normally someone who would stay down without being genuinely injured.

12' Close! A deflected effort on goal from Juan Mata spins just wide of the left post.

5' The home side have started brightly, with both full backs marauding forward at every opportunity.

2' Manchester United can go to the top of the Premier League table with a win today.

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Mata, Rooney, Memphis, Martial.

The team news is in!

Kick-off is at a 3 PM today, with the game not televised. Team news will be out at 2 PM. Stay with us for all the latest on Manchester United - Sunderland.

James Wilson will be hoping to get his first chance this season at United. He hasn't been a part of a matchday squad for United. However, he signed a new contract at Old Trafford on Friday, an indication that Louis van Gaal has not, contrary to some reports, fallen out with the youngster.

Summer signing Bastian Schweinsteiger has instantly taken to the Premier League. He spoke to MUTV on Friday, saying that "we're second in the league and we're looking forward to maybe taking the next step." He says United "did a great job at Southampton" in the 3-2 win last weekend, with Martial scoring twice. "For us it's very important to make three points at home. Sunderland have some problems, but I don't believe this team will give up and it will not be so easy. We are convinced about ourselves. If we do our job very well then we will reward ourselves."

Sunderland will be hoping to see Jack Rodwell and Jermaine Defoe return to action following ankle and hamstring injuries respectively. Adam Matthews is still unavailable.

Meanwhile, there's been no inspirational signing for Sunderland. With just six goals scored so far. Advocaat's side will struggle to improve on that at United. The Reds have conceded just five goals in the league this season, with Chris Smalling and Daley Blind forming a solid partnership in defence. However, with Luke Shaw horrifically breaking his leg against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League, Van Gaal has a left-back problem, with Marcos Rojo injured too. Blind may have to move out of central defence to replace Shaw, or winger Ashley Young could play there.

If Martial scores this afternoon, he'll become the first player in United history to score in his first three Premier League games.

Manchester United's last Premier League game was an impressive comeback against Southampton inspired by Anthony Martial. The French youngster has been superb since joining, dealing with the pressure of a massive £36million fee. Scoring on his debut against Liverpool took the pressure to another level. Yet Martial delivered once more, scoring twice against Southampton and then in the League Cup against Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are in a much worse position. It was almost expected that the Black Cats wouldn't be sitting comfortably, even this early on in the season. Dick Advocaat's decision to stay on the North-East seems to have been a poor one. The Dutchman's side are bottom with two points after six games, conceding the most goals in the league.

Man United will be hoping to continue a good start to the season which sees them just two points off the top of the Barclay's Premier League behind local rivals Manchester City. The Citizens play before United, in the early kick-off against Tottenham Hotspur.
