Manchester United reserve player, Donald Love, who was shortlisted last season for Reserves Player of the Year last season, has moved to Sky Bet League One side Wigan Athletic on a two-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old is known for his defensive manoeuvrability as he is capable of playing at right-back and in the middle of the defence.

Love signed his first professional contract with Manchester United back in 2013 and in his opening season, he earned eight appearances for the under-21 side and five appearances in the starting XI. Although he has impressed in Warren Joyce’s side, he is yet to make a single appearance for the first team.

Love joins Wigan, could make debut on Saturday

The defender has signed for the Latics in time to be able to join the squad for this weekend’s game against Walsall and make his debut.

Wigan boss Gary Caldwell, who saw previous loanee Jonjoe Kenny recalled by Everton last month, said that Wigan "needed to fill this gap in the squad."

"Jonjoe [Kenny]'s departure and the long-term injury to Kevin McNaughton has left a gap in the squad for a specialist right-sided defender and in that respect Donald fits the bill.

"He's a young player still learning but we have had him watched and we believe he has immense potential. He's quick, strong and can play in several different positions defensively. Let's hope he can start realising some of that potential here."

Love will be joining the Latics in Sky Bet League one. They are currently sitting in ninth position in the league and are currently unbeaten at home ten games into the season.

The Rochdale born, under-21 Scotland international will be reunited with some familiar faces from Old Trafford as Andy Kellett and Reece James are already part of the Wigan starting line-up.
