Lukasz Fabianski was beaten by a superb flicked finish from Wayne Rooney against Manchester United in a 2-1 defeat and has praised the striker for it.

The Swansea City goalkeeper came close himself at the end of the game, in a final minute attempt to get a draw, heading wide. However, Swansea couldn't come back from Rooney's incredibly cheeky finish past Fabianski.

The Poland international denied Rooney multiple times earlier on in the game but could nothing to stop his 77th-minute winner. He says the England striker should be given "massive credit for the second goal."

Fabianski praises Rooney for 'class'

"That was something not many players can do," Fabianski said after the game. "He showed his class. It was a great touch and finish. There wasn't much we could do."

Rooney hadn't scored in all competitions for 553 minutes and will be relieved to stop that drought, as well as ending United's eight-game streak without a win, lasting back to November 21.

With his goal, the United captain broke two records, one for the club and one for the Premier League. He surpassed former-United striker Andrew Cole as the second highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 188 goals in his 12 years in England's top division. He also moved past another United legend in Denis Law, becoming outright second highest goalscorer in Manchester United history with his 238th goal for the club since his arrival in 2004 as a teenager.

Rooney aiming to break Charlton's United record

He will be aiming to break Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 260 United goals, but is unlikely to break Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 260 goals, with more than 70 to go. At age 30, time is certainly not on his side and his performances have decreased in quality over the past few seasons after more than a decade at the highest level of world football.
