Manchester United head into this weekend's game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge looking to build on two successive victories against Derby County and Stoke City respectively.

Louis van Gaal has a few injured players still going into the game against Chelsea with full-backs Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia remaining out for a while. The positive news is Phil Jones has returned to training but is likely still to miss out on the game at the weekend, as it comes to early for him after being out for a long time.

Bastian Schweinsteiger still remains on the sidelines with a knee injury that he picked up last month in the FA Cup, while Michael Carrick returned to the starting lineup against Stoke on Tuesday evening, and set to keep his place in the team.

So, with a number of first-team absentees to contend with, who is likely to be in the starting XI for this weekend's game?

The back five is set to be unchanged from the Stoke game

David de Gea will continue in goal, with Matteo Darmian set to keep his place ahead of Guillermo Varela after a much-improved performance against Stoke. Daley Blind and Chris Smalling are set to continue their partnership in defence due to injuries to others.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson is set to continue in the left back spot after impressing in every game he has played so far this season and is coming of age very quickly.

Carrick is set to keep his spot in midfield after an impressive performance in midweek after injury, but the big question is who will join him Marouane Fellaini or Morgan Schneiderlin? Schneiderlin was dropped versus Stoke after a bad performance against Derby while Fellaini played well against Stoke, so is most likely to keep his place.

Juan Mata is set to keep his place in the number 10 role after a brilliant performance against Stoke, where he was involved in all three goals. Jesse Lingard is set to play on the right wing after a much-improved performance midweek, while Anthony Martial is set to play on the other wing after back to back man of the match performances, and is starting to show why he was bought for the money the club paid for him.

Rooney will look to keep up his good scoring run

Wayne Rooney will once again lead the line on his own after scoring seven goals in his last seven games, and is on a great run where everything is going right for him.

Predicted XI: De Gea; Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson; Fellaini, Carrick; Lingard, Mata, Martial; Rooney.
