Diego Costa's equaliser in stoppage time earns Chelsea a draw after a splendid opener from Jesse Lingard almost saw Manchester United get a deserved win at Stamford Bridge

United began the game much better than Chelsea

The game began with United passing the ball around well without creating much, but you could definitely see that the confidence from the previous two games gave the players a lot of confidence to keep the ball well.

The first good shot of the game came from Michael Carrick who unleashed a good strike outside the box after a long spell of possession from the away side, but Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois got down to save it well. The first fifteen minutes were very good for United, and Louis van Gaal would want it to keep up for the remainder of the game.

Martial forced Courtois into a fantastic save

The next chance of the game fell to Anthony Martial who cut in from the left, and unleashed a beautiful effort that was curling into the Chelsea net, but for a fantastic save from the Belgian keeper. United looked really bright for the first twenty minutes of the game.

Chelsea finally got themselves in the game, and had their first chance in the 28th minute when a corner was headed on goal by Nemanja Matic, but David de Gea got down well to save. United had been dominant to that point, but that was a real warning sign for them to watch out for.

The home side started to grow into the game, and had two chances within a minute when Diego Costa was played in, but he put his shot wide. The second chance came after a good bit of play played Oscar in, but the midfielder put his shot over the bar.

The rest of the first half saw United keep the ball well to try, and take the sting out of Chelsea's good spell in the game, and the first half ended 0-0 with United dominating for the first 25 minutes, but the home side came back into after that.

The second half began the same way as the first with United creating the first chance when Wayne Rooney had a strike from a long way out which Courtois had to get down well to save. It was unlucky that nobody was following the ball in as Courtois palmed it out in front of him.

United went close again within minutes when a good cross from Rooney fell to Martial who laid the ball back to Jesse Lingard, and the winger had a shot from the edge of the area, but Courtois once again pulled off a great save. The follow-up fell to Rooney who had another shot which was saved by the Belgian who was in top form during the game.

Lingard opens the scoring for United with a fantastic strike

United's dominance in the game finally paid off with the opening goal with a great strike from Lingard inside the box, after a good passing move from the away side which saw Cameron Borthwick-Jackson cross the ball into the box.

The home side made a good response to going a goal down when a cross from Cesc Fabregas found it's way to Branislav Ivanovic who smashed a volley towards goal, but De Gea pulled off a fantastic save to keep the visitors in front.

De Gea had to make another fantastic save to keep United in front when Fabregas unleashed a fierce effort from inside the box which was going in the top corner, but the Spanish keeper saved it from under his bar.

Since the flurry of chances from the home side United started to keep the ball to try and take the sting out of the game to try and see the game home. Van Gaal kept giving his players instructions to see the game out.

Costa equalises in stoppage time for Chelsea

United couldn't hold out until the end of the game which saw six minutes of added on time due to the injury of Kurt Zouma, and in the second minute of added on time Costa scored after a slip from Daley Blind made it easy for the striker to score into an empty net after he rounded the goalkeeper.

The game ended 1-1 after the late goal from Costa cancelled out a fantastic opener from Lingard. United dominated most of the game, and were unlucky not to take the three points.
