Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard expressed his disappointment as his side drew against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Red Devils delivered a good performance, but conceded a late equaliser which only allowed them to return home with one point.

Lingard broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish and the youngster believes United deserved better from the match. It was yet another setback suffered in the side's quest to finish in the Champions League spots as they are now six points off of fourth place.

Disappointing result

Lingard believes that drawing at Stamford Bridge felt like a loss. The 23-year-old, in his post match interview with Sky Sports, admitted that the team "played well for the majority of the game," and so "to concede so late feels like a defeat."

Before the match, Louis van Gaal admitted that his team have started playing sparkling football after recent good performances. The academy graduate also suggested that the team is getting back in form and playing some good football too, insisting they are “playing a lot better now."

"The team spirit is good and as a collective group we’re doing well."

Great strike was simply instinct

Speaking about his opening goal, Lingard admitted that the finish was pure “instinct” as the midfielder superbly fired the ball into the top corner.

The 23-year-old debuted under van Gaal in his first match as a Manchester United manager, but has missed out for most of the season due to a serious injury and a loan move to Derby County.

Lingard has been rewarded for his hard work this year though as he has been a mainstay in the starting XI. The winger has scored four goals in the Premier League and will be hoping to continue his good form as United chase a top four position and compete in the FA Cup and Europa League
