Manchester United forward Anthony Martial revealed to Inside United that he has taken inspiration rom legend Eric Cantona and advice from another great of the club, Patrice Evra.

He told United's official magazine that Cantona is "truly a legend here", and because he "was a great player", is consequently a "real reference" for himself as a means to improve upon. Eric Cantona had a fantastic career at the club, appearing for the Red Devils 185 times and netted 82 goals during his four-and-a-half seasons with the Red Devils.

Martial also mentioned: "You also have Pat[rice] Evra - who lives in the same town as me in France and who has only had good things to say to me about the club. He told me it was a club of champions, a club that above else wants to win and certainly since I’ve arrived here I’ve felt that for myself too."

Martial’s career so far in Manchester

Anthony Martial sealed his move to Manchester United for a fee of £35m which includes potential add-ons that could increase up to £60m. He made a fantastic debut at Old Trafford, coming on against rivals Liverpool and scoring a solo goal which erupted the stadium. His tally so far this season under his new teams is nine goals and six assists.

Martial has settled into England very well, but hasn’t had the proper chance to express his abilities and skills that much in a defensive system Louis van Gaal has placed into the club. There are days where the Frenchman can get easily frustrated in games when he doesn’t receive the ball as much as he wants, but when he’s on form he has the pace and power to break any defence.

Martial wants success in debut season

Martial ended the interview by saying that he hopes the team can "manage to win something", whether it be through domestic competition or the Europa League. It definitely seems like he is prepared to help United become successful again and have a good career at the club just like Evra and Cantona did.

Currently, the club don’t seem appealing as title contenders especially being behind top four by six points, but in the meantime, the realistic achievement they could go for this year is the FA Cup or become Europa League champions. They didn’t have the best moments this season, as the club’s campaign in the Champions League and Capital One Cup came to an end quickly.
