Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has issued a warning to his old side saying that the club face having a long title drought if they do not pick the right manager after Louis van Gaal.

Ferdinand urges club to make the right decision regarding the next manager

Over the last few weeks, there have been widespread reports from all of the media that Jose Mourinho is set to take over as United manager in the summer. Ferdinand is anxious that any new manager that comes in can haul the club back to the success that they have had under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferdinand said "I think if they bring someone else in, it is a huge decision because if it doesn't go right, it could be a long cycle" which is the fear of many United fans who just want to see the club make the right choice so that the club can once again start winning trophies.

Ferdinand urges club to not do a Liverpool 

The former reds defender is keen for United to start winning trophies again so that the club "don't repeat what Liverpool have gone through" which is not winning a league title for over 25 years, and Ferdinand says that "Manchester United don't want that long time in the wilderness". 

United head into the last 13 games in the Premier League sitting in fifth place, and looking a long shot to get into the Champions League for next season. Ferdinand is unsure who is the right man to get the job as new players might not want to join the club.

Ferdinand feels it will be a tough choice for Woodward to make regarding the next manager 

Ferdinand unsure about who should be the new United manager said "are they going to go for someone who has had success, who knows how to manage teams like Mourinho, or will they give it to Giggs?" a question many United fans will not find hard answering as they want Mourinho in as manager as soon as possible.
